How listings are vetted
- Start from the public record. Every listing begins as a public Google Maps record for a Pilates studio, or a business with Pilates or reformer in its name.
- Keep the real ones. Studios inside the 33 London boroughs that are open stay. Duplicates are merged. Gyms without a Pilates focus are left out.
- Read the website. Where a studio's own site can be read, we note what it says it offers, such as reformer, mat or pregnancy classes, and mark it Website checked.
- Say when we do not know. No readable website means "not enough info", never a guess. We do not verify instructor qualifications or insurance.
How to choose a Pilates studio in London
Decide between reformer and mat
Reformer classes use a sprung machine and are usually smaller and pricier. Mat classes need no equipment and are often the cheaper way to start. Many studios offer both.
Ask about the instructor's training
Ask what Pilates qualification each instructor holds and whether it covers the equipment they teach on. Ask whether the studio holds insurance.
Check the class size and level
Look for beginner or foundation classes if you are new, and ask how many people are in a class.
Mention injuries or pregnancy before you book
Tell the studio about any injury, condition or pregnancy before your first class. If in doubt, check with your GP or midwife first.
Try before you commit
Many studios run an intro offer or a single class. Try one before buying a block or membership, and read the cancellation terms.
Common questions
How are studios listed here?
Every listing starts from a public Google Maps record. We keep open studios in the 33 London boroughs, read each studio's own website where we can, and leave out gyms without a Pilates focus. Owners can claim a listing to correct details.
Do studios pay to be listed?
No. A basic listing is free and stays free. A studio can pay £30 a month for the Featured spot on a borough or area page. It is labelled Featured and Advertising and never changes the ranked list.
What does not enough info mean?
It means the studio's website did not say, or there was no website we could read. It does not mean no. Ask the studio.
How is the order decided?
By a weighted rating that balances the Google star rating against the number of reviews, so a few five star reviews do not outrank a long track record. See How we rank.
